Buying Or Selling A Used Car? LaScuola Motorworks Is Your MD Inspection Station

Maryland State Inspection

According to Maryland law, a used vehicle—whether it’s a car, a truck, or a motorcycle– when it changes hands, needs to be MD inspected.  This means that you can sell or purchase a used car “inspected” or “uninspected.” In order to get a car inspected, it must go through a rigorous safety inspection, in order to get an inspection certificate.  Each car newly purchased used car that is registered in the State of Maryland must have a valid Maryland Inspection Certificate.

Cars that are sold “inspected” sell for a higher price because the new owners of the vehicle know that the car has already gone through the state safety inspection, and has passed it.

Many owners sell a car “inspected” for a couple of reasons.

1) inspected cars sell higher because it lets the new owner know that the basic functionality of the vehicle is good, and also lets them know that there is likely less money to spend on the used vehicle they’ve purchased in order to tag it in the state.

2) Sellers often sell cars “inspected” for peace of mind.  They want to know that the car they’re selling to a new owner is not going to be problematic for them or cause them potential harm.

Cars that are sold “uninspected” sell for a lower price in the State of Maryland because it’s “buyer beware” when you’re purchasing an uninspected car.  If a car is sold “uninspected,” the new owner of the used vehicle is responsible to get the car inspected.

This puts all the financial liability on the purchaser instead of the owner, and there can be surprises when a vehicle is inspected, causing the new owner to spend extra dollars on the vehicle they hadn’t planned to.
