Have you ever been on an extended summer road trip or an excruciatingly long daily commute only to discover, halfway through, that your air conditioning is failing?

There can be numerous reasons why AC systems fail, but most often, it has something to do with the compressor. Schedule your appointment and let us help!
AC Compressor Replacement
Local Repair Services
The compressor is probably the single most vital element of your vehicle’s air conditioning system. While things like fans and Freon (refrigerant) are important, it’s the compressor that makes the refrigerant work and move through the system.
What is the cause of your AC compressor problems? It could be a burnt clutch or bad bearings. In both cases, it’s cheaper to replace the entire compressor than simply trying to fix the smaller parts that are failing. If it’s a problem with the seals, the decision is out of your hands as your only option will be a complete replacement of the compressor.
Signs Your Need An AC Compressor Replacement
In many cars today, it’s sometimes difficult to know how serious a problem is without a certified garage running a systems diagnostic. That said, here are some sure signs to be on the lookout for that may indicate the need for a new AC compressor:
- Off-and-on cooling
- AC not blowing cold enough
- AC blowing hot
- Loud noises coming from AC
- Noticeable refrigerant smell
- AC not turning on at all
- Refrigerant leakage
If you want your vehicle to stay cool, a working compressor is a must. It’s the AC’s compressor that pressurizes the refrigerant (Freon) that cools your air. No compressor, no cool air.
While the process of replacing an air compressor will be slightly different depending on a vehicle’s make and model, the replacement procedure usually goes like this:
- Technician checks AC system pressure, power, and ground on compressor
- All refrigerant is removed from the bad compressor
- The compressor is removed, along with tubes, drier, and expansion valve
- AC system is flushed to free it of debris
- New compressor and related parts are installed
- The AC system is recharged with refrigerant
- The AC system is checked for leaks and tested for cold air and proper flow
